Statement 2 : Wildlife Fencing at Shearwater

7 September 2026

Resi Ventures acknowledges the community’s continued concern regarding the kangaroos at Shearwater Paynesville. We understand that seeing native wildlife injured or in distress is deeply upsetting. Following our earlier statement, we would like to provide a further update on the actions taken and the next steps for the site.

Actions taken

On 28 August, acting on the advice of our ecologist, sections of the fencing were opened and para-webbing was installed across these openings to improve visibility for kangaroos moving through the area.

A representative from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) attended the site on Monday, 31 August. We have been advised that no further kangaroo injuries or fatalities have been recorded since these modifications were completed.

Next steps

We are continuing to work with DEECA, the Council and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water to finalise a permanent fencing design that meets the requirements of all relevant authorities.

Resi Ventures maintains that its actions have been consistent with the conditions of its federal and state approvals. However, we recognise that our responsibility extends beyond minimum compliance. Where our ecologist or the relevant authorities recommend additional measures to protect wildlife, we will continue to implement them.
