Five Minutes with Terri Baldwin

Terri Baldwin is Resi Ventures Finance & Office Manager. She took 5 minutes to share some insights on what’s shaped her career journey thus far.

What’s your very first memory of working in property?

I had been with the company two weeks when I had to organise landscaping for two stages at one of our developments, it was a very quick submersion into the Resi Venture’s world given I had never worked in the industry before.  I did actually have residents call me and thank me for their trees which I wasn’t expecting.

What’s the best advice someone has given you?

Work out what you are good at and then do it well.

What has been the most formative experience in your career?

Gaining a boss that encouraged me to do more and not being pigeonholed into specific tasks of the original job description early on in my working life was very helpful.

What advice would you give a young person starting out in property?

Learn the acronyms, all industries have their own terms and property, and construction is certainly no different.  Learn who the key players are and stay abreast of trends.

Who has been your most important professional mentor?

Our director Anthony Braunthal, it never ceases to amaze me the amount of detail he is across and how wholeheartedly he throws himself into anything he’s doing.  He has an amazing memory and is always willing to share his know-how and knowledge with others generously.

At what time of day do you get your best work done?

I like to try and sit down at my desk at least one hour before things start arriving in my inbox each morning.  I generally get no calls at this time and I am very productive.

If you could go back and give your 18-year-old self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Don’t sweat the small stuff, take a deep breathe and don’t panic.  Save some money early and get into the property market as soon as possible, your first house won’t be your last, so don’t aim for perfect.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I like when our customers settle on their land and are excited to start building their new house.  The most rewarding part is when they move-in and start to make it a home and we see our communities starting to thrive.

What do you like to do to relax?

Travelling, reading, gardening, walking, ballroom dancing and karaoke
